Well for starters I am a 53 year old, who lives a very busy life. I had thought by this stage in my life I would be allowed time to enjoy the things I enjoy most in life, such as smocking , sewing and gardening. However the pressures of being a caregiver just about full time. Free caregiver I will mention! Has consumed my whole being.
I am the caregiver for my elderly, rather physically disabled mom.I also have wonderful in-laws, but my mom-in-law has Alzheimer as well as sever arthritis. This also means a lot of personal attention has to be given to them.
On the other end of the spectrum are my granddaughters who live just up the road. They have their own home but tend to feel quite free to be here.
As my own children move one by one out the house, the grandchild take over each room as " Their own". Funny how that works.
So just as I thought we were downsizing, we are really just changing face.
I still have one young lady living at home. She has completed her schooling and is now working. I will totally freak out the day she leaves home.
I am a "Type A" personality. I always thought it was just my German upbringing, because if you know most German's they are "precise" in what they do. I believe its how they are schooled. But I have learned later in life that I am just the Type A Person. My Dat was and so am I.
{ Type A personality -The theory describes a Type A individual as ambitious, rigidly organized, highly status-conscious, sensitive, truthful, impatient, always try to help others, take on more than they can handle, want other people to get to the point , proactive, and obsessed with time management. People with Type A personalities are often high-achieving " workaholics" who multi-task, push themselves with deadlines, and hate both delays and ambivalence}
As a Type A personality we tend to be hardest on ourselves. Things have to be orderly, clean, spaced and arranged just so. Colour plays a huge role in everything. For me the whole spectrum of colour means something. I can see a colour and have a whole feeling about taste, comfort, scenes, just by seeing a colour.

When my children were younger I had everyday of the week set out. Don't ask me know what they were because other then Monday night I pulled my sewing machine out and made sure I had all my sewing fabrics, cut, pinned and piled for Tuesday sewing day. I don't remember the exact list. That is the funny part about it all. At the time it all meant really important things to me, but now 20 + years later???
old monthly menu plan |
By the header you can see our house is old, and large by the standards of 140 years. We have created this whole farm environment as well as a family, and creative works. But among all this my order had become chaos.
Last year I cleared out over 365 bags or boxes of items. I tackled a bag a day of items and would not do what needed doing that day until the bag was collected and tagged to its destination.To be sold, given to charity or thrown out. It is now gone.
So I began a new slate as of early May ( near my birthdate) and this year am bringing order I once had back into my life, so when we retire I can in peace. Knowing I have everything done in a calm order.
By the way..... my dear husband is Type B!!
I hope you enjoy my journey.
